2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!

Mom was born in Colorado to Shade Jones and Carrie Colyer Jones. She was one of four children-the youngest. After losing her mom at a young age to cancer, she married at age 17 to Peter Bufardeci. It was an unhappy marriage that soon ended. But he did bring her to NJ. Later, she met and married my father, edward Joseph Carroll. They divorced and remarried and then I was born in 1963. Wanting the best for me, and in an untenable marriage, she met and later married my stepfather, Edward Shiko. They had a pretty good marriage and I had a stable family. Beautiful, incredibly intelligent, tenacious, she was a deeply committed Christian who was more knowledgable about history, religion and politics than many experts in these fields. An avid reader and self taught scholar, she lived and breathed her beliefs. She was a saver- she took in lost children and lost pets and made them feel special and loved. She was beloved by me, by my dad (step) and by all that knew her. Almost 400 people attended her wake/ funeral, most of whom knew her personally and admired her greatly. November 29th, 2000, mom was caught in a house fire. She died the next day at St. Barnabas Hospital as a result of extensive internal and external burns. Her last words to our neighbor was "save the cats if you can". She was a wonderfully, warm and gifted woman who loved me fiercely. The world is a far less good place without her but I know she is with God and we shall be reunited again.
