On Friday, March 1, 1996, the Lincoln Journal Star in Lincoln Nebraska reported that Sue Ann was shot and killed and her 17 yr old daughter and 20 yr old son, along with his fiancé were shot at, by Clinton McNeel. Trying to defend his family in their home, the son shot at the suspect and McNeel was arrested when he sought treatment at a hospital for a gunshot wound.
In July of the same year, McNeel plead no contest to a charge of first-degree murder. The 49 year old was a family friend and was expected to be sentenced to life in prison plus 2 consecutive50 yr sentences. His attorney said that McNeel had been diagnosed with a blood disorder that could cause organic brain damage.
