Obituary of Arthur Douglas Lafferty Dr. Arthur Douglas "Doug" Lafferty Jr. passed away on January 11, 2022, at the age of 88. Born in Hollywood California to Arthur Douglas Lafferty Sr. and Janice (Fletcher) Lafferty, Doug grew up during the golden age of Hollywood and attended UCLA. After college, Doug embarked on a life-changing adventure, leaving California to move to British Columbia, Canada where his career path began in Prince Rupert where he took on a teaching assignment in 1965, then to Comox British Columbia in 1966. From island life, he moved with his young family in 1969 to the heartland of the wilds of British Columbia to Wells, which is a remote community in the heart of Cariboo country. In Wells, Doug became the principal of the town's only school which consisted of grades one through to twelve. When he reflected on all the adventures in his life, Wells held a special place in his heart. It was a source of great pride for Doug that he started the Head Start program which was a prelude to kindergarten. From Wells Doug and his family headed to the lower mainland in 1972 where he took a job in Vancouver as Vice Principal of Eric Hamber Secondary School. In 1976 the family moved again back to Vancouver Island where Doug took the job as the Charter Principal at Ballenas High School in Parksville. After retiring from education, Doug moved to Bellingham, Washington, and embarked on a second career as Ombudsman with the Northwest Regional Council, which he retired from about 10 years ago. Doug was an adventurous, loving man who appreciated witty humor and practical jokes. He was a storyteller and had a collection of adventures that he would freely share with an interested ear. Doug's passions included his library of books, space travel to Mars, family ancestry and Ireland, football - particularly the Seattle Seahawks and the LA Rams, anything John Wayne and spending time in the sun. Doug was a man of strong values and was an inspiration to all who were blessed to have known him. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. Doug is survived by his children Coleen Richey, Kelly Pellatt (Marlow), and Arthur Douglas "Doug" Lafferty Jr. (Jayna), his grandchildren Christina Loren, Dawn Richey, Erin Richey, Tamera Morse, Natashia Pellatt (Erin), Shavaun Pellatt (Jordan), Chelsea Martin (Chris), Shane Johnson, Scott Lafferty, Kacy Lafferty, 10 great-grandchildren, and many friends and family to include Dave and Francine Kincaid. He was preceded in death by his daughters Lisa Lafferty and Deborah Olguin, and his wife Mary.
