Debora Rorrer Lewis
About me:
My name is Debora Rorrer Lewis, the oldest grandchild of Lurlene Fannie Cockram Rorrer (1913-2019), daughter of Glenn David and Nancy Raye Rorrer.
Growing up, I spent every vacation with my family in Virginia, either in the mountains or on the coast. I have relatives in Michigan, Floyd, Woolwine, Stuart, Newport News, and many more.
I'm just beginning this journey into my family history because I believe learning about our history is important. It helps keep memories alive and allows each generation to have an idea of who they are and where they came from.
I am connected to the Cockram, Rorrer, Hall, Gilpin, and Lewis families.
A bit about me, I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, but currently live in Beaufort, South Carolina.
I joined the United States Marine Corps directly out of high school in 1976 and proudly served for 20 years before retiring at Parris Island as a 1stSgt. I was a member of the USMC Rifle/Pistol team early in my career. I also served with C’co, 8thMTBN, 2nd FSSG during Desert Shield/Storm earning the Combat Action Ribbon. The Marines showed me the world as a motor transport chief and competitive shooter, but I can honestly say my two tours as a Drill Instructor, was the most rewarding.
Immediately on retirement from the Marine Corps in 1976, Burton Fire & Rescue hired me as a full time Firefighter/EMT. I served for 20 years retiring as Battalion Chief for Shift 1 in 2016. I hold a Degree in Fire Science Technology, am Nationally Certified Fire Officer IV, Fire Instructor III, Hazardous Material & Weapons of Mass Destruction Technician, COBRA certified, and a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate.
I am certified as a National Rifle Association Basic Pistol Instructor, Personal Protection in the Home Instructor, Range Safety Officer, and maintain a South Carolina Concealed Weapons Permit.
A licensed biker with over 45 years’ experience, I own a 1973 FLH and a 2007 FLHX. I enjoy genealogy, riding my motorcycles, marksmanship, golf, camping, playing softball, and relaxing at home with my family. For those who may not know, Beaufort, SC is on the east coast one hour south of Charleston, SC and about one hour north of Savannah, GA.
As I hail from Michigan, I am a huge Wolverines fan! GO BLUE! I am also a die-hard Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, and Detroit Pistons fan!! Detroit...ROCK City!!
