2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!

Jacob Kristufeck
Jacob Kristufek was a Bohemian immigrant, born in what is now the Czech Republic around 1831. He came to the US around 1854 and settled in Chicago. He was active in Republican politics, likely engaged by the 1860 Republican Convention in Chicago and joined a Union militia dedicated to protecting the St. Louis armory from falling into the hands of Confederate loyalists should war break out. He was a soldier in the United States Civil War, serving under the command of Captain Ott in Missouri in 1861. After the war, he continued to live and work in Chicago in lumber yards as a cooper. After his death in 1895, his name was added to the Civil War veterans memorial at the Bohemian National Cemetery. Spouse: Anna Slepicka (1828-1911). Children: Mattias Kristufek (1849-1930), Joseph Kristufek (1855-1933), John Kristufek Sr. (1858-1930) and Rose Kristufek Kase (1867-1956)
Otto Kristufek
Otto is the son of John Kristufek Sr. (1858-1930) and Barbara Kadlec (1864-1923). He married Sylvia Donat on Oct 14, 1914 and had a daughter Virginia the following year. In 1925, they had a second daughter Doris. Otto and Sylvia moved to the shore resort town of Union Pier, Michigan in the 1930s and opened a small store.
Anna Kristufek Donat
Anna Kristufek is the eldest daughter of John Kristufek (1823-1913) and his wife Anna (1825-1881), born in Chicago soon after the family came to the US in 1853. Anna grew up at 171 DeKoven in Chicago. Her family relocated a few blocks away in the early 1870s to 487 S. Canal Street, which was also the residence of the Donat family. Anna and Vaclav Donat were married on April 6, 1875 and had seven children. According to her granddaughter, Doris Kristufek Krestan (1925-2008), Anna believed the solution to all of life's problems was putting your hands to work in hot soapy water.
