Dian Trace
About me:
I have a passion for history, especially family history. I am researching the names Alley, Leitzman / Lietzman, Sturgeon, and Costin in Indiana; Cottrell, Bawcom / Baucom, and Welch in Arkansas & Louisiana; and Trace, Hoskinson, Hutchings, Courson, & Hughes in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Reminder to everyone: It really helps others like me if you include references to what part of the country your photos / family are from when you post them.
About my family:
I haven't shared details about my family.

Sturgeon family gravesite
The final resting place of my great-great-grandfather William T. Sturgeon (front row of stones, third from the left-the fourth stone is a civil war service marker) William T. went to Indianapolis for training with hundreds of other newly enlisted Civil War soldiers, but was never mustered out do to disease contracted at training which proved fatal. Two daughters, Hannah and Charolotte are burried on the ends of the same row. Beside William T. lies his step-mother, Sarah "Sally" Jones. Where his wife "Ellen" Nelly (Costin) Sturgeon ended up is unknown, but we believe she gave up her plot here to bury her mother in law, as they were both widdows at the time of Sarah's death.

Leitzman, John and Amanda gravesite
The final resting place of John and Amanda Leitzman, Crown Center Cemetery, Morgan County, IN. The town Crown Center was once called Mt. Tabor, as was the cemetery. Both name's changed when with the town. Their daughter Celia Pearce's stone can be seen in the lower right-hand corner of the photo.

Alley, Hannah (nee Stevenson)
The final resting place of my great-great-grandmother, Hannah (Stevenson) Alley, Mt. Carmel Cemetery, in Marion, IN. The cemetery is not fenced, and many stones have been broken by dear and other amimals. We pieced together the remnants of her stone, which read "Hannah Alley, Wife of Washington". She was born 28 Mar 1811, died 24 Feb 1877.

Sondra Ellis, Texas, circa mid 1940's
This is a Christmas Post-card photo of Sondra Ellis, signed "Sondra, Bobbie, and Dane Ellis". It is stamped by the photographer as "San Antonio, TX", but the studio name is not shown. My father has carried this around for nearly 60 years, and the photo holds a special place in his heart. What a beautiful little girl! E. V. Moore and Ellis Alley at family home
E. V. Moore and my grandfather Ellis Alley outside the family home after a hunt. The house was built in the 1800's and was moved to this site shortly after my grandparents married. They raised thier family in this house, which went into probate after the death of my grandfather in 1971. It was later destroyed by fire. The barn was still standing as of two years ago, but developers were preparing to knock it down to build a sub-division.
