My Dear Father owned his own Shoe Store, also he repaired working boots & shoes. He sold Levi pants & other clothes for men mostly for the working cowboys. Their were a lot of Cattle Ranches in those days.(Benson AZ) .. When he fought during WWII, he was wounded. Sent to a MASH Unit, then sent to San Francisco to the VA. He called my Mom, she was 16. She lived in S F , She rushed over in the city bus, didn't recognize him. He was100 lbs & use crutches. He recieved the Purple Heart, Bronze & Silver Star. He married 2 yrs later...When I was Kid, I loved when he would take us to the A&W for treats. He had a friend who was a pilot & whoo hoo, my Dad took me on a ride on the small plane. It a little scary but more Fun & so incredible to look down... My Mom got a job to save $$ for a vacation. He put the playpen in the back of the Store so he could babysit my baby brother. If the baby did poo, Dad would take him outside & get the hoe hose him down the best he could. A good thing he was a toddler. He'd use clean diapers to clean the rest , oh gee.. My baby sister, they then had two cars, would ask" Which car do you want me to take you in"? "Daddy the Cadillac of course". We had had to walk to school.! ..Well when I married we, I & my husband moved to MA, My Parents came to see us. Once day, mind you its winter. It was very sunny & warm in the house. He decided to check if the mail came in, mind you its probably 20 degrees, he turned around real fast & said forget it, its so cold its. I said first put on your coat but he said I don't need to walk far, oh poor Dad... He could Wow me, He bought me an Oldsmobile for my 50 B'Day. Wow, I was ever excited.. One time when really needed a babysitter, I ask my Dad to care for 8 yr old Son, well at that time he was in playing monopoly at MacDonalds, my son was sick. Dad decided to take him a zillion MacDonalds & treated each him each time. OMG, then my Son of course couldn't eat much & was sicker. He said "Mom I never want eat at Mac Donalds for a very very very long time". Another memory is, I replace some dead light bulbs on the chandlier at his house. We sitting down to dinner, he was last to arrive. "Wow its bright in here. He ate very little then left & came back with sunglasses on!! Yes sunglasses on his face. We all laughed, we coud help it. He went on eating then chuckled. There many more stories. He loved his Family very much. He so much loved his grandkids & had time to play with them. He came down with Alzheimer's. How very SAD for all of us. He was so intelligent. Its a horrible horrible disease. Anyway he is at rest now. I miss him everyday. He is not forgotten, how can he be?
