Ane Kathrine Marie Hansen and family in America: This photo is taken somewhere in America, about 1885, I should think. The mother in this Danish immigrant family is Ane Kathrine Marie Hansen, born 1852 in Jerlev, Jerlev parish, Jerlev county, Vejle, Denmark. She was the daughter of Hans Clausen and Karen Ludvigsdatter Rau in Jerlev. I would very much like to know: What became of her? I know she went old in America. What was the name of her husband, and their children? Where in USA did they settle down? Do they have living descendants today? I have another small photo, a snapshot, where Ane Kathrine Marie Hansen is standing infront of some wooden 2 or 3 floor houses on a row, with typical American porches. She is then an old lady, and beside her is standing a brother, visiting from Denmark. Both photos were sent over the many years to their younger brother, my great-grandfather Johan Henrik Ludvig Rau Hansen, who stayed in Vejle, Denmark.

Johan Henrik Ludvig Rau Hansen was born 1869 in Jerlev, Jerlev parish, Jerlev county, Vejle, Denmark. He died in Vejle 1947. He was a joiner and carpenter in Vejle. His parents were rather old when he was born as their youngest son, and his father, Hans Clausen, died when Johan Henrik Ludvig Rau Hansen (called Ludvig Rau) was a young boy. Ludvig Rau married and got 4 children, but lost the 3 first children to tuberculosis. Then he lost his young wife, also to tuberculosis, and soon he married again, and got 4 more children, who lived and went old. But the surviving daughter from his first marriage died too, only 12 years old, from appendicitis. The oldest son of Johan Henrik Ludvig Rau Hansen was my paternal grandfather, Frederik Christian Rau Hansen, born in Vejle 1902. He build up from nothing a big furniture business in Vejle, and he has today bunches of descendants. A sister to Ludvig Rau immigrated with her husband to America.

Karen Rau had a father called Johann Hendrich Ludwig Rau, whose father, Johann Christopher Ludewig Rau, came from Angel near Flensburg, to Højen parish, Jerlev county in Denmark, to buy the biggest farm in this county: Oxviggaard. That farm is still existing today. The father of Johann Christopher Ludewig Rau was an innkeeper in Thalitter, Hessen-Darmstadt, Germany, His name was Johann Christopher Rau, and he was born in Eibenstock, Saxony.
