Mrs. Nunes
This photo, taken in New Bedford, MA was found in the album of Mary Silva Caren. Many of the pictures were taken in MA and RI, probably before 1890.
This photo is one of many found in the worn red velvet album of my Great Grandmother, Mary Silva Caren. Most of the photos are not identified. Mary was born in 1856 and came to the US in 1885 (according to the 1900 Census) and worked as a cook or servant in the Providence, RI area (according to family history) before she married. Some of the photos were taken in Bristo Co., MA and some in Providence, RI. I believe they were taken before 1890, at which time Mary married John Caren (Carn in the 1900 Census) and moved west to California. There are 7 small tin-types included in the album that were probably taken much earlier, perhaps in the Azores where Mary is originally from.
