He married Kathleen Veronica Cooney, and they had children Fay Patricia (Hope) Byrnes and Richard James Hope. He would also marry Kathleen Veronica Cooney. Richard Hope died at age 54 years old on August 1, 1959 in Mortlake, and was buried in August 1959 at Rookwood Memorial Gardens and Crematorium Memorial Ave, in Rookwood.
