Yesterday when Mr. W Lambert, the builder, was clearing away the surface for the foundations of a new brick shop for Mr. Walton, on his allotment and adjoining Mr. Stahmer's, he and others were struck by the auriferous appearance of the dirt, consisting of the large boulders in a bed of gravel and pipeclay. A trial of a panful of dirt resulted in Mr. Stahmer's obtaining a Yz dwt of gold. Several parties would have willingly started to work, but it would have necessitated replacing the dirt with stone-work, which was a royalty the would be diggers were not prepared for. '
