2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!
Aussie was born as the second child and eldest son of Herbert and Marie Smith of Stonehouse, Gloucestershire. His father was the MD of the Severn Valley Fruit Co Ltd and Austin was educated at Wycliffe College. He joined the RAFVR and was called up in 1939. He joined at Filton RAF station and gained his wings as a Sgt Pilot. He was killed on operational training on the 14th August 1940 in Cheshire. He was survived by his eldest sister, 'Bobbie' and his younger twin brothers, Geoffrey and Thomas.
