Henry Hazel Holbert was born to Elija M. Holbert (born 1881) and Rosie J. Harper (1883 - 1969). Both of his parents were born in West Virginia. He had three brothers: Hollie William, Clyde E., and James Holbert and one sister, Nona Marie Holbert. He also had one half-sister.
A veteran, Henry served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Henry Holbert married Ulva Madeline Shafer (1922 - 2013) and they had three sons and one daughter, Barbara J. Holbert (1938 - 1974).
