Judge Leslie Emmett and Bessie Via Given Tombstone
Large tombstone belonging to Judge Leslie Emmett Given and his late wife Bessie Via Given. The graves of their two infant children are to the left front of the tombstone I believe. I remember visiting Aunt Bess on the day she died in 1980, at the old Statts Hospital here in Charleston. I told her "Jesus is with you Aunt Bess." As soon as my dad and I returned home. We got a call from the hospital that Aunt Bess had died. My father, Judge Given's nephew, who was named after him, always said that Uncle Emmett would of been embarrassed that his wife had bought such a large tall tombstone for them.

This is an old photo of my uncle and father. My uncle Dr. Arnold Jarrett Given Jr., is pictured on the left. His brother, my father, Leslie Walter Given is on the right. This picture was taken sometime in the 1930's, when they were living with their parents Dr. Arnold Jarrett Given Sr. and Theo Wilson Given in Rensford WV. My grandfather was a coal mine doctor in the Rensford and Putney area of Campbells Creek. I just love the nickers they are wearing in this photo. My father passed away in August 2006. Dr. Arnold Jarrett Given Jr., died in January 2009.
