2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!

Helen Lewis Crosby was one of four children born to Edith Alban Lewis and Bennett R. Lewis of Rhinelander, WI. She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Helen loved the arts and literature. Helen maintained a loving relationship with her niece, Mary Lewis Bouffiou, of McFarland, WI and with Mary's children. She was hospitable to the family and supportive of the artistic endeavors of Mary's children, especially those in theater and forensics. She lived to hold her first grand-grandniece, Suzanne, daughter of Laura Bouffiou Jacobson and husband Ron. Her grand-nieces were treated to a most elegant reading of PETER RABBIT every Christmas after dinner in her home. She is fondly remembered by all of Mary's children.
Bennett enjoyed his work with plants at the UW greenhouse. He was disabled as a child and lived in Madison, WI all his life. His mother, Helen Crosby, a widow, lived in Nakoma on Mohawk Trail. She was active among the University Alumnae, enjoyed theater, reading, and an active social life. She died after many years at Attic Angels. Bennett loved big family dinners at his cousin's (Mary Lewis Bouffiou) home on Thanksgiving and Christmas. He always brought paint-by-number oils as a gift to his cousin, who rewarded him with homemade fudge and all the turkey and mashed potatoes he could eat...which was a lot! Bennett lived for decades in an apartment on Mifflin Street in Madison. After the death of his cousin Mary, the family lost touch with him, though some searched in later years. He was a kind and simple man who loved painting and happily shared his treasures.
