2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!
My grandfather Thruman Cromwell Thompson was born in Malvern, a suburb of Melbourne, in the State of Victoria, Australia on 17 December 1892. His father was George Henry Thompson (1863-1939) and his mother Ada Smith (1863-1948) who moved to Western Australia during the 1890s goldrush. Thruman had 3 siblings: Hatsell George, Claude Edwin and Ada Priscilla Thompson (Mrs. Harold Boys). George Henry's parents were Thomas Thompson and Jane Carson who married in Tasmania in 1844. They both died in 1894-5 and had about 12 children including William, John, Thruman Thomas, Sarah, Elizabeth, Priscilla and Selina. Thruman Cromwell Thompson married Mildred Stella Shannon in 1920 in Claremont, Western Australia, and had 3 sons including my father Geoffrey Malcolm (1921-2015), Ralph Herbert (1923-1993) and Thruman Garth (1925-2004). Thruman Cromwell served in WWI as reg. no. 2711 of the 16th Battalion, 8th reinforcements of the Australian Infantry (AIF). He was deployed in Egypt, France and Belgium where his bravery was acknowledged by General Cox following the battle at Ypres. In civilian life he was a store keeper and public service clerk. He was known as an entertainer organising and performing in charitable fund raising concerts and fancy dress balls. He was a dapper well dressed, well spoken man who always wore a bow tie or a fancy american Nevada tie. He also sang and danced and grew begonias and ferns in a latticed shaded gazebo. He smoked heavily using a cigarette holder, and suffered from a nervous disorder as a result of the War. He died of lung-disease at home in Bay Road, Claremont, in August 1963.
George Henry Thompson was born in 1868 to Thomas Thompson. He had siblings William Thompson and Selina Thompson.
