Newell Allen Thompson and Bertha Oegerle were married on June 4, 1901 in Bath, Michigan. She was the daughter of George and Johanna Oegerle of Alida, Kansas and met him while he was stationed at Fort Riley, Kansas. His parents were Wilbert O. and Mary Jane (Smith) Thompson of Bath, Michigan. She made her wedding dress, packed her wardrobe, got on the train and followed him to Michigan! Her man didn't get away!
