Coroner's Inquest 1916/638. he was working in a gravel pit at Clyde near Cranbourne, Victoria. James died on the train taking him to Melbourne Hospital. He was pronounced deceased by an attending doctor on train betweeen Cranbourne and Dandenong. The age of 55 is purely speculative by police and witnesses. He was not known to any of them.

VICbdm D/C No.6834/1916. gives age at 55 years. This was just a guess by police and witnesses. No one knew him personally. He was travelling from farm to farm looking for work.
