Furlon's father was Butler Bryant and his mother was Euna D. Bryant. He had one sister Loy, 8 years his senior.
In the 1950 federal census, Furlon was age 3 and living with his parents Butler, age41, and Euna , age 36, in Van Buren Tennessee. His sister, Loy, age 11, was also in the household. His father said that he was a farmer.
Furlon married Jessie Mae (or Jerrie, records differ) (Mitchell) Bryant on June 21 1978 and they later divorced. For an article about the domestic issues after the divorce read Bryant indicted for ex-husband’s murder
In 2006, Jerrie was convicted of the murder of her ex-husband, Furlon. After shooting him, she dismembered his body, burned it, and dumped it in a brush pile which was 99 feet from his home. His body was found a week later. Jerrie then tried to kill herself by taking a near fatal overdose of pills. She later claimed that someone else killed Furlon and that men had broken into her house and forced her to take the overdose.
The sentence was 22 years in jail. See Woman charged with murder of ex-husband for more details.
Jerrie later appealed her conviction (on the basis that she didn't testify on her own behalf) but the appeal was denied since she had been following the advice of her attorney.
The case was featured on an episode of Oxygen, originally aired on June 2nd, 2019, called "Snapped" (S25.E14). Synopsis: "When a man goes missing in a rural small town in Tennessee, family members and detectives band together to uncover scandalous secrets fueled by greed and lust."
