I'm the grandson of the Belgian First World War veteran Francois Van Den Bosch, who was wounded in the heroic defence at the Tervaete Bridge during the Battle on the Yser.

Colonel Ronald Eagleson Gordon served in the Royal Engineers on the Indian and African continents. During the First World War, he commanded a Sappers and Miners company in East Africa, mainly restoring railway lines. He was the cousin of Archibald Alexander Gordon, who inherited his legacy and served to protect it until his dying day.

Helen Isabel (Gordon) Nicholson of Bridge of Allan, Schotland Verenigd Koninkrijk was born in April 1873 to Dr. William Eagleson Gordon and Emily Maryann (Dick). She had siblings Archibald Alexander Gordon, William Eagleson Gordon, Emily Mackenzie (Gordon), and Robert Aaron Gordon. Helen Nicholson died at age 88 years old on October 23, 1961.

Robert A. Gordon was a veteran of the Second Boer War. As a Captain, he took his battalion to South Africa and was present during the actions of Stormberg. In February 1900, he took part in the relief of Wepener, including the engagements at Dewetsdorp.

William Eagleson Gordon served with the 1st Gordon Highlanders in the Tirah campaign and later earned the Victoria Cross in the Second Boer War for his actions near Krugersdorp. At the start of the First World War, he landed as second-in-command with his battalion in France and was taken prisoner at Le Cateau. In 1916 he was exchanged for the German hereditary prince Salm-Salm and returned to England. In 1940, while residing in the In & Out Club in London, he was severely wounded when a German aeroplane bombed Picadilly Square. He later died of his wounds in the hospital.

Dr William Eagleson Gordon was born in Strabane, Ireland, on 4 June 1831. He died unexpectedly on 15 January 1873.
