Archibald Alexander Gordon
Archibald Alexander Gordon was the second son of Dr William Eagleson Gordon and Emily Maryann Dick. He was the youngest brother of Victoria Cross recipient William Eagleson Gordon Jr, halfbrother to George Freer Jr, older brother to Robert Aaron Gordon and brother to his sisters Emily Mackenzie Gordon (married Black) and Helen Isabelle Gordon (married Nicholson). He was the father of William Hyde Eagleson Gordon, who died during the Battle of Loos on September 30, 1915, Archibald George Ramsay Gordon, who died in his infancy and Edmund Robert Adam Gordon, who became wounded in the First World War and later died as a result of TBC in 1932. Archibald Gordon's legacy was passed down to his cousin Ronald Eagleson Gordon, who ensured that it would be preserved. During his lifetime Archibald A. Gordon held many esteemed positions, including Honorary Secretary of the Franco-Scottish Society (1895-1906), member of the Royal Company of Archers (1896 onwards), Co-founder of the 9th Royal Scots (1900-1906), Private Secretary to the 4th Duke of Wellington (1906-1920), Organiser of the Belgian Relief Fund (1914-1915) and Belgian King's Messenger (1914-1922). He also participated in preserving the mosaics of the Church of the Multiplication at Tabgha (Israel). In 1939 he wrote his memoirs, published in 1941 under the title "Culled from a Diary".

Hi I'm the current president of the Major Gordon A. A. Gordon Society, which was founded in 2019, to preserve the legacy of Archibald Alexander Gordon and his family. I spend a great time researching and looking for new information.
I'm the grandson of the Belgian First World War veteran Francois Van Den Bosch, who was wounded in the heroic defence at the Tervaete Bridge during the Battle on the Yser.
