Tammany Hall Leader Richard Croker
Tammany Hall Leader Richard Croker
If you don't know about Tammany Hall, you should read up on it. It was a Democratic political machine that ruled New York City for decades. Boss Tweed was its most famous leader but Richard Croker ruled Tammany Hall after the fall of John Kelly (1884).

Obviously, Richard Croker was a prosperous man. Before leading Tammany Hall, he was an adlerman, a coroner, New York City Fire Commissioner, and city Chamberlain before succeeding John Kelly. He was born in Ireland, he died in Ireland, but he made his fortune in America.
