2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!

Richard Meredith Penington (or Pennington) went by the name Meredith Pennington as a child and also that name is on his marriage license. He later went by the name Richard Combs, possibly taking his mother's maiden name since he was raised in her parents household after his father, Thornton Penington, died. Also, according to a story by one of his descendants, he may have been adopted by the Penington family before Thornton died.
Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Poindexter Penington.
Elizabeth Combs of Tazewell County, Virginia United States was born circa 1839 in NC. Elizabeth Combs was married to Thornton Penington, and has children Poindexter Penington and Richard Meredith Penington. Family, friend, or fan, this family history biography is for you to remember Elizabeth Combs.
Thornton Penington was a soldier in the United States Civil War. He married Elizabeth Combs on 19 April 1856. They had two sons, Poindexter and Richard Meredith. Based on a descendant's story, it's possible that Richard Meredith was adopted. Thornton died at the Battle of Chickamauga in Georgia in 1863.
