2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!

Lottie Collins 1892
Lottie Collins, born 16 August 1865 and died 1 May 1910, was a famous music hall performer in Great Britain. She popularized the song "Ta-ra-ra Boom-de-ay" which she heard while touring the U.S. and which I remember today. Does anyone else? Evidently, she did a rowdy and bawdy version of this song and looking at this picture, with her figure, I bet it was quite a performance!
By exposing her stockings that were held up by sparkling garters and her bare thighs, Lottie Collins became an icon of the "Naughty Nineties" in the United Kingdom.

Frediericka Ruge 1880
Great Grandma (Zoern) Ruge was musically talented and I would have loved to be able to experience that talent. She married Christoph Carl Martin Ruge and they came over to the states in 1883 and came through the New York Port. They ended up in Illinois but also spent some time in Wisconsin working the farms there. They finally settled in Chicago for good in 1910.

Hippie Girl - 1960's
Lovely hippie girl from the 1960's. I had the hat - loved that hat - but I never had makeup like that! Nonetheless, reminds me of my college days in Berkeley.

The Charleston by Josephine Baker
In 1926, before she premiered her Danse Sauvage at the Folies Bergere, Josephine Baker performed the Charleston onstage - with a lot more clothes! This is part of the Revue Negre Dance.
