Judith Prowda
Judith Ann Prowda of San Francisco, San Francisco County, CA was born on May 23, 1941 in Oneida, Madison County, New York United States, and died at age 48 years old on December 5, 1989 in San Francisco, San Francisco County, CA. Judith Prowda was buried at Oneida Community Cemetery in Oneida, Madison County, NY.
Judy hired me into BofA straight from grad school. She was a real character. The night before on-campus interviews, she hosted a cocktail party in the Cambridge Hyatt, in January, a long slog through cold winds, snow and slush. She was playing California Girls by the Beach Boys, showing a slide show of California beaches, and serving California wines. We were instantly sold. She came up to me, with her New York twang, and said, “You must be Peter. I saw you went to Bronx Science. Are you some kind of genius?” I couldn’t help myself and almost choked on my wine, laughing. The next day, at the interview, we didn’t have enough rooms, so were assigned to a Professor’s office. Naturally, in mid-interview this junior Econ professor shows up, gets all offended (guess he didn’t read the memo) and threw us both OUT. We finished in the hallway, and I was mortified. Of course she flew me out to SF, where I fell in love with the city. Long story short, she brought me (and my then girlfriend) to San Francisco. Later, I became her Executive Assistant for a year, and she helped me become a VP. She literally helped make my dreams come true. A few years later, during a period between jobs, one evening I visited a bookstore in SF. I was browsing, and all of a sudden I heard a familiar voice through the stacks. It was Judy! She had been ill and was buying books to stay busy. It was so wonderful to see her. It was as if no time had passed and we shared dinner. Being the warm-hearted person she was, she helped me find a great consulting gig and helped me get back on my feet. Sadly, it was that same illness that a year later took her life at 48. Far too young. I was so grateful that we were able to reconnect. I was very happy to see her. And in a sense have a chance to spend some great time together before she passed. She was my boss, my mentor, and my friend. She was bold, brash and funny, and she did a lot of living in her years. She really taught me a lot and I’m grateful for what she did for me. It has been 35 years, and I still miss my friend Judy. I hope that some of the others she touched might someday see this. She deserves to be remembered. Photo of Judith Prowda Judith Prowda
