2020 marks 20 years since the inception of AncientFaces. We are the same team who began this community so long ago. Over the years it feels, at least to us, that our family has expanded to include so many. Thank you!

Everan was killed before I was born so I never knew him. In 1965, I was talking with his brother, Alvoid who told me that Everan worked in a mine up Montpelier Canyon before he joined the Army. He couldn't afford antifreeze for his car. During the winter, he would put water into the radiator when leaving home, drain it when he arrived at the mine and then fill it and drain it again in the evening. I was told by my mother that when Everan's vicarious temple ordinances were performed in the Logan LDS Temple, that Everan appeared to the man who did the ordinances for him and expressed thanks to him for having done the work. As mentioned in his obituary, Everan sent a letter to his family after he arrived in France and it was published in The News-Examiner on July 27, 1944. It follows: Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Peterson of Ovid received the following letter, written July 17, by their son, Pvt Everan J. Peterson, somewhere in France. Pvt Peterson is a parachutist and jumped to the Normandy Peninsula on D-Day: Dear Folks, How is everything at home by now? I am getting along fine and everything is about as good as can be expected. I guess you know by now that I jumped over here on D-Day. Boy, what a day that was. The Germans were all ready and waiting for us. They threw everything they had at us. It was two days before the beach landing forces got to where we were located. Boy, we were sure glad to see them. You can follow my division by reading the papers, see what we are doing and about where we are. Things are not so bad here now, but it rains just about every day. Most of the people here are quite friendly. They sure are poor though, I don't see what they live on. Nearly all the towns I've seen were shelled just about to the ground and all the homes with them. Every farm house you come to has three or four barrels of cider. Most of them will give you all you want to drink. Tell everyone hello and don't worry about me. I'll write as often as I can. Love, Your son Everan
