James R. Conroy (Jim) was the son of Helen and James F. Conroy of Nanticoke Pa. and the brother of Dolores Conroy Klangaski. He was married to Pauline G. Kozlowski Conroy of Nanticoke, Pa. They had one daughter, Ruth Conroy Howell of Maine born in 1947, three grandchildren; Justin Bocchino of N.J., Joshua Klastow of Florida and Joe'l Bocchino of N.J. and one great grand-daughter, Amanda of N.J. He and his wife were born and grew up in Nanticoke, Pa. A few years after their marriage, they relocated to Orange, N.J. to accept a job offer as an operating engineer and he became a member of the operating engineers union. He and his wife later moved to their retirement home in the Poconos, Pa. where he had a fall while working as a volunteer fireman, resulting in a serious brain injury. Jim enlisted in the Army as served in active duty as a paratrooper/sniper during World War II. During that time, he sustained life-threatening injuries and was awarded the Purple Heart and various other medals. He was an avid sailor and enjoyed spending his leisure time boating and snow skiing.
