From what my mother told me: when my grandfather Nick came over from Italy, he couldn't communicate well because of the language barrier and the spelling of our last name was significantly changed! I think they found out from relatives in Italy one time that it should have been somethinglike: "Sarrassa".

AnnMarie and Steve's wedding photo. November 1949. Well Mom and Dad eloped a year before this, Nov 1948. A year later, around their anniversary, they got married in the church and had more of an official but small celebration.
