My grandfather -Pappaw- was such a good man. He loved the Lord and served in his church regularly. He loved shuffle board and working with tools. He taught me to be a man and showed me how to sharpen knives and work on cars and enjoy life. You are missed and remembered this 25th anniversary of your going to heaven.

Norma Jean McMahel of Lakeland, Polk County, FL was born on September 26, 1922, and died at age 86 years old on February 12, 2009. Norma McMahel was buried at Florida National Cemetery

Vernon O Mcmahel was born on February 18, 1918 in MT Carmel, Illinois to parents Cloice Claveland McMahel (1888-1955) and Sarah "Sadie" Cole (1890 - 1973). He had six siblings: Jenette, Clarence, Wendel, Imogene, Frances and Cloice Mcmahel.
Vernon lived in Mount Carmel, Wabash, Illinois and enlisted on May 25, 1942 in East St Louis Illinois. Vernon served in the US Army Air Force from May 25, 1942 until November 4, 1945. He was a First Class Private in the Air Force and is a World War II Veteran.
Vernon McMahel married Norma Jean Bailey (1923 - 2009) on August 9th, 1941 in Saint Charles, Missouri and they had three sons, including Gary Lee (1942 - 1998) and one daughter. He was survived by twelve grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
He was the best grandpa in the world and loved his family and loved the Lord God. Vernon also loved golf, shuffle board, and working with his hands. See his grandson's memory at Pappaw.
