Daddy Hiram T. Epps , Paratrooper
My Daddy, Hiram Thomas Epps,on the left, who as a member of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, the Red Devils regiment, attached to the 82nd Airborne Division, jumped behind the German lines in France on D-Day, June 6, 1944. He fought in Holland, and Belgium, and all the way to Germany and stood on the Honor Guard for Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, the Allied Supreme Commander in Frankfurt, Germany, and of course he fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he had frostbite feet. He was and is my Hero, one of the great generation of freedom-defending Americans who are dying every day. God Bless them all!! The fellow in civilian clothes was my uncle by marriage, James Alfred Hammond who later served in the Navy in WWII. I was a U.S. Marine in 5th Comm. Bn, III MAF, DaNang, S.Vietnam in 1970. Semper Fi, do or die, Marines.
