George Ruickbie was walking down a fishing pier near Melborne Beach, Florida. The man walking ahead of him grabbed the back of his neck and fell to the deck, bleeding . College students in a nearby residence had, they said, been cleaning a 22 calibre rifle when it discharged. The reporter of this event in the newspaper confused George (the witness) with the victim of the event.

Agnes Ruickbie(nee Todd) and grandson Larry at the Ruickbie cottage on the banks of the Grand River near the village of York, Haldimand County, Ontario, Canada. The cottage was destroyed by a flood of the Grand River several years later, and washed away, leaving nothing.
