George Herman Ruth, Jr. (February 6, 1895 – August 16, 1948) aka "Babe" Ruth, "the great Bambino" and "the sultan of Swat". Younger people might know of Babe's nicknames in large part due to the movie The Sandlot.

Babe Ruth is still to this day one of the most famous Major League baseball players. He played from 1914 - 1935 on both the Boston Red Sox as a starting pitcher, and the New York Yankees as a right fielder where he eventually would become best known as a hitter.

My father's side is full blood Sicilian and my mother's side is a combination of Welsh, Scottish, German and a few other European cultures. One of my more colorful (ahem black sheep) family members came over on the Mayflower. He was among the first to be hanged in the New World for a criminal offense he made while onboard the ship.
