President Taft at the polls, voting, in 1908.
William Howard Taft (born September 15, 1857) was elected President in this election and went on to serve one term, from March 4, 1909 – March 4, 1913 (in those days, the inauguration was in March). Among the issues he ran on was improving the service of the U.S. Postal service. (Guess the Postal Service has been an issue forever!)
William Howard Taft died on March 8, 1930 at the age of 72. He was the only President to become Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court.
