This is my father-in-law, whom we never knew. The picture was taken at the San Diego Zoo, just before he was deployed with the US Army to go to Germany during World War 2, we think around 1942 or 1943. He was captured & held as a POW. Due to circumstances beyond his control, his 3 young children were given up for adoption in 1948 near or in Smith Co., TX. Their mother was Charlie Joyce (STARNES) THOMPSON, later WILLIAMSON. All are deceased now, but we are trying to locate a daughter (& sister), and Walter's family line, as well.

V. R. Walter Howell Thompson was born January 17, 1919. He Died October 25, 1982 at age 63. He was born in Payne Springs, Henderson County, TX and died in Tyler, Smith County, TX. He died of heart failure. He enlisted into the National Guard Calvary Division November 18, 1940 as a Private.
