Brenda Parks Wash and Mark Short were wanted in Lampasas Co., TX for the shooting of Sheriff Denson on January 14, 1873. Both got away but Mark Short was later arrested. Before he could be tried, Sam Denson, son of the Sheriff, shot and killed Mark Short. This seems to have happened in September of 1876 in Lampasas. In October of 1879, G.W. (Wash) Short was arrested in Montague County and was to answer to charges in Lampasas in November, 1876. We do not have any information about what happened after that. I know that Wash was the father of Henry and Haley Short who were born in Indian Territory Oklahoma in the 1880's. On the 1890 Oklahoma Territorial Census, I found Washington Short (age 42 and born in Missouri) with a Sarah Short (age 30 and born in Texas), Nannie Short (age 13 and born in Texas), Henry Short (age 6 and born in Indian Territory) and Haley Short (age 3 and born in Indian Territory). On the 1880 census for Montague County, TX census I found a Sarah Short and Nannie Short living in a boarding house. Sarah stated she was married and was working as a cook. Any information will be greatly appreciated.
