This is James R. Smiley (1847-1939). He was born at Shelbyville, Bedford County, Tennessee and died at Kankakee, Illinois. He is buried in Mound Grove Cemetery, Kankakee, Il. He was a farmer and dairyman and manager of the Pure Milk Co. in Kankakee, IL. He married Julia E. Virginia McElroy in Kankakee March 11, 1875. They had 8 children: Ida M., John Allison Smiley, John Robert, Jr, Mable, Lee Moore,Alice Adeline, Earl and May.

She ran a boarding house for working men for years and was a master cook. Both she and husband Edgar died in Chicago Heights, Illinois and are buried in Oaklawn Cemetery, Chicago.
