General Porter was present at the Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse. His personal writings describe the Restoration of Peace communications between General Grant and General Lee. Horace Porter was born in Huntingdon, PA on April 15, 1837, received the Medal of Honor on September 20, 1863 and died in New York City on May 29, 1921.
My Uncle Bill Miller served in the USMC with the 1st Marine Division during WWII (1942-1945)at Guadacanal and Iwo Jima and present at our U.S. Flag raising on Mt. Surabachi. He was discharged as a Corporal. Born & raised in Philadelphia, PA he passed away at age 75 in Florida.

While serving with the 72nd PA, Sgt. Hess was killed at the Battle of Gettysburg on 3 July 1863. His funeral was held from the home of his parents (Peter Hess & Maria Leidy Hess) in Philadelphia, PA.

This is the only known photograph of my Great Grandmother Charlotte (Trettenbach) Fryling. Charlotte was the wife of my Great Grandfather Samuel Fryling. They were the parents of '14' children.
Jacob Fryling, his wife Harriet (Berlin) Fryling and their son Howard Samuel Fryling. Jacob Fryling served in the Civil War with the 174th PA Regiment.
