My great-great-grandmother, Melinda Frances Vest, was an independent woman who did not marry the father (a Mr. Collins) of her son David Crockett Collins, born 1876, Giles Co., VA. She later married Joseph Garner and Peter Ward. She died 1922, McDowell Co., WV.
Rachel Nell Yates was my great-great grandmother. She married Nathaniel Westerman in 1869, Mason Co., IL. She was born in Mason Co.to Thos.J.Yates and Nancy D. Ross, and died in 1910, Thomas Co., KS. She and Nathaniel must have divorced in the early 1900's, as he remarried.
David Crockett Garner was born to Melinda Frances Vest and an unknown Mr. Collins in 1876, Giles Co., VA. Later, Melinda married and her husband Joseph Garner gave little David his last name. David was a hotel and tavern keeper in Iaeger, McDowell Co., WV. This may be a wedding portrait (married Amanda Cline in 1897, Davy, WV).
Charles A. Newton was the son of Perry M. Newton. He was the brother of my great-grandfather, Frank Leslie Newton. Charles was a hotel owner in Lancaster Co., NE. Son of Perry M. Newton and Rebecca Holler.
Jason Montgomery Newton was the brother of my great-grandfather, Frank Leslie Newton. Jason married Sybella Teets, 1888, but they had no children. He was a well-known publisher/editor in Stark Co., IL. His father was Perry M. Newton.
Frank Leslie Newton was my great-grandfather. He was an insurance agent, real estate agent and justice of the peace; murdered in the courthouse annex, 1926, Clay Center, KS. This is probably his wedding portrait; married Deborah Westerman, 1891.
