Becoming America's President takes money. While this is truer today than ever in U.S. History, it might not surprise you to know that most of our Presidents came from wealthy stock.

In 2010, 24/7 Wall St assembled a list of all U.S. Presidents' net worth, adjusted for inflation to modern currency values. We thought we'd take a look at histories of the 10 richest men to become leaders of the free world at that time.

7. Lyndon Johnson

$98 million

Ironically, this one-percenter brought millions of Americans out of the poor-house with his War on Poverty initiative. He is remembered more infamously for escalating the Vietnam War.

How he made his riches

Unlike many on this list LBJ came from humble roots, the son of a struggling farmer. He paid his way through college by picking grapes and tutoring children. Almost all of LBJ's eventual wealth came from his wife Lady Bird and her investment savvy. They ended up expanding their fortune through ownership of Texas radio stations, along with some questionable help from LBJ's friends in the FCC.
