Becoming America's President takes money. While this is truer today than ever in U.S. History, it might not surprise you to know that most of our Presidents came from wealthy stock.

In 2010, 24/7 Wall St assembled a list of all U.S. Presidents' net worth, adjusted for inflation to modern currency values. We thought we'd take a look at histories of the 10 richest men to become leaders of the free world at that time.

5. Andrew Jackson

$119 million

Andrew Jackson famously won the Battle of New Orleans in the War of 1812, and won Florida from Spain. He was also a founder of the Democratic party and our first Democratic president.

How he made his riches

Jackson started as a merchant, opening the first general store in Gallatin, Tennessee. The next year, he bought a plantation known as the Hermitage near Nashville. This plantation grew steadily and became a huge commercial success. However, as with many of our founding fathers, this wealth was built on the backs of slaves - it's estimated that Jackson had up to 300 slaves in his life, a staggering number even by the standards of the time.
