Barbara West married Marvin "Chuck" Turner on October 15, 1992 in Jefferson County, Texas. They separated on February 3, 2004.
Barbara had two children from a previous relationship: a son, Bobby Wayne Brown and a daughter, Angela Brown Bagley, who was two years younger than Bobby.
On April 2, 2006, Barbara's daughter, Angela, called the police and reported that her mother had committed suicide. Barbara, who was living with her mother in a FEMA trailer, said that she didn't hear her mother shoot herself because she was asleep at the time. At the end of May 2006, Angela was arrested by local police for the murder of her mother, Barbara. Angela's alibi, that claimed that she was sleeping, didn't hold up. Police could prove that she was on the phone at the time she claimed to be asleep. Furthermore, Angela had a motive, as there was an insurance policy on her mother's life.
