Peter Cornelius Runia is the son of Cornelius and Grace Runia. He was born on May 22, 1927 in Bigelow, Nobles County, Minnesota and had an older sister Gertrude as well as a younger brother John B. Runia. They grew up living in Wilson, Osceola, Iowa, USA.
At the time of the World War II draft, he was only 17 years old, and registered for the military draft on May 19, 1945, in Iowa, USA.
Shortly after his 18th birthday, on July 6, 1945, Peter enlisted in the military at Fort Snelling in Minnesota. He joined with no branch assignment as a Private Selectee (Enlisted Men).
Peter P Runia was born on January 27, 1920 in Sibley, Osceola County, Iowa, United States of America to parents Peter Cornelis Runia (1871-1936) and Cornelia "Kate" de Jong (1879-1955). He grew up in Wilson, Osceola, Iowa, USA with siblings Cornelius "Case" Runia (1899-1997), Elizabeth Runia (1914-), and John Bernard Runia (1929-1997).
