Alfred Earnest Lefoe was born in 1868 to Levi Lefoe and Jane Martin, and had siblings Louisa Ann Martin Lefoe, John Henry Lefoe, Fredrick Martin Lefoe, Author William Lefoe, Frances Jane Lefoe, Thomas James Lefoe, William Henry Lefoe, Joseph Edgar Lefoe, and Charles Nicol Lefoe. Alfred Lefoe died at age 75 years old in 1943.

In 1868, in the year that Alfred Earnest Lefoe was born, on July 9th, The Fourteenth Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified. The Fourteenth Amendment guaranteed African Americans full citizenship and equal protection under the law. It also gave all persons in the United States due process of law. The former Confederate states hotly contested the amendment but were forced to go along so that they could regain representation in Congress

In 1870, Alfred was only 2 years old when on January 26th, the state of Virginia rejoined the Union. On February 23rd, Mississippi was readmitted to the Union. On March 30th, Texas was readmitted to the Union. And on July 15th, Georgia became the last Confederate state to be readmitted to the Union.
