Frances Jane Lefoe was born in 1863 to Levi Lefoe and Jane Martin, and had siblings Louisa Ann Martin Lefoe, John Henry Lefoe, Fredrick Martin Lefoe, Author William Lefoe, Alfred Earnest Lefoe, Thomas James Lefoe, William Henry Lefoe, Joseph Edgar Lefoe, and Charles Nicol Lefoe. Frances Lefoe died at age 81 years old in 1944.

In 1863, in the year that Frances Jane Lefoe was born, on January 1st, President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The Proclamation made the abolition of slavery in the Confederate states an official war goal. It also immediately freed 50,000 slaves, with the rest freed as Union armies advanced into Confederate states. The Proclamation wasn't a Congressional law - it was an Executive Order.

In 1877, by the time this person was only 14 years old, on January 8th, the Battle of Wolf Mountain occurred in southern Montana Territory. Crazy Horse, Two Moon, and their warriors fought the United States Cavalry. The battle was a tactical draw and by May, Crazy Horse and his followers had surrendered at Camp Robinson.
