Anthony Hockett 1730 - 1814

Anthony Hockett was born on December 8, 1730 in Hanover County, Virginia United States to Philip Hoggatt and Mary Hoggatt, and had siblings William Hockett, Joseph Hockett, and John Hockett. He married Mary Agnes Hockett, and had children Samuel Hockett, Agness Harvey, Jonathan Hockett, David Hockett, Moses Hockett, Joseph Hockett, and Benjamin Hockett. Anthony Hockett died at age 83 years old on August 7, 1814.

In 1800, when he was 70 years old, on August 30th, educated blacksmith Gabriel Prosser organized a slave revolt. He wanted to capture Richmond and kill all whites - excluding Methodists, Quakers, Frenchmen, and the poor - and become king of a new black nation. The revolt failed, he was captured and hung. Slave laws were tightened in Virginia.

In 1804, Anthony was 74 years old when on July 11th, Alexander Hamilton, former Secretary of the Treasury, and Aaron Burr, Vice President of the United States, fought a duel. Alexander Hamilton was shot and died the next day. Burr was indicted for murder and was acquitted but his political career was ruined.
