Daniel Lafayette Thomas
I've "rescued" two old photographs belonging to the THOMAS Family of Rushville, IN. The first is a photograph of Daniel Lafayette THOMAS of Rushville, IN which was taken at the J. Wesley Bennett Studio in Indianapolis, IN. The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with Daniel appearing to be in his 40's at the time it was taken. He is also identified as "Uncle Lafie" on the back of the photograph. The second photograph is identified as that of Mrs. Daniel Lafayette THOMAS of Rushville, IN and also as "Aunt Lina". The photograph was taken at the Sargent Studio in Rushville, IN sometime in the 1880's with the woman in the photograph appearing to be in her 50's at the time.
Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this couple:
Daniel Lafayette THOMAS was b. 9 Mar 1842 in Rush, IN to parents George THOMAS (b. Nov 1805 in Lewis Co. KY-d. 1863) and Sidney WALKER (b. 5 Mar 1807 in Maysville, KY-d. 1884). Daniel was one of 5 children born to this couple including, William Walker; Mary Margaret; Daniel Lafayette; George Washington; and John Quincy THOMAS, all born between 1829 and 1847. Daniel married Amanda MOORE (b. 11 Jun 1843-d. 24 Nov 1888) on 12 Oct 1865 and they had a daughter, Ida THOMAS BEECHER b. 1880. Daniel died 28 Oct 1893 in Rush, IN and he is buried along with his wife in the East Hill Cemetery in Rushville, IN.
His sister Mary Margaret married into the ALEXANDER Family and died in 1918 and is buried in the East Hill Cemetery along with most of their family members.
