During the Civil War, David C Long enlisted in the Union service from Schuyler County, Illinois. He served with the 50th Illinois infantry, Company H. While on active duty at Pulaski, Tennessee he died of pneumonia and was buried in a military cemetery at that location. After the war, for fear of graves located in Confederate territory being desecrated, all Union graves were exhumed and moved to National Cemeteries. David's body was removed to the Stones River National Cemetery at Murphresboro, Tn. In 2017, I visited the cemetery and viewed his record which indicated that his grave location at the cemetery is unknown.
