Griffith Long died at age 71 years old on May 29, 1895 in Corry, Erie County, and was buried in May 1895 in Union City.

  • Military Service

    In the US Civil War, Griffith Carr Long served with the 150th Regiment of the Pennsylvania Bucktails. His military rank varied from private to Sgt.

  • Professional Career

    Griffith Carr Long's father, Cookson Long, was the postmaster at Milledgeville, Pa from 1852 until his death in 1859 at which time Griffith was appointed to as postmaster. He served in that position until he entered the US Civil War. While serving in the war, his wife Marjorie Shirk Long became seriously ill. He succeeded in obtaining a furlough to visit his wife. Thinking she was recuperating her health he returned to duty, but his wife later died. She is buried in the Milledgeville Cemetery at Milledgeville, Pa. (see genealogy of John Shirk).
