    Doris' parents were Robert Richburg (1904 - 1963) and Sally(sic) or Sallie (on Doris' wedding certificate) Franklyn (1905 - 2005). She had a brother and a sister. She married Lorenzo Davis (1929 - 1990) on March 5, 1948 in Petersburg, Virginia Where Doris was living at the time) and they had two sons. (On her marriage record, Doris gave her birthplace as Philadelphia PA. Other records state that she was born in South Carolina). At the time of their marriage, Lorenzo was a private in the US Army. He stated that he was born in Waco, Texas and that his parents were Granville Davis and Mamie Carter. Doris taught elementary school math and was appreciated by her students. Great Math Teacher - I became a high school Math teacher thanks to her
I am so thankful that Ms. Davis MADE OUR CLASS (4th GRADE ) LEARN OUR MATH FACTS. The fact that she did this MADE ME A MATH PERSON FOR LIFE. I became a high school Math teacher, in fact, so I know from experience that she had to spend an at least an hour every night to do this - on top of all the other grading she had to do.

I also know from experience that very few teachers do this. It is a very thankless job. Had Ms. Davis not done this, the kids in my class would have hated Math for life. I would love to thank her for the hard work she had to put in to give us a chance to be Math people, but passed before it ever occurred to me how few teachers do this.
