Douglas Mark Glanville was born on December 16, 1933 in Heber City, Wasatch County, Utah United States to Mode Rupert Glanville and Florence (Smith) Glanville, and had siblings Hal Lynn Glanville, Florence Ruth Homer, Mary Naomi Flint, and Gerald Scott Glanville. He married Dianne (Bailey) Glanville in 1955 in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, and they were married until Douglas' death on September 27, 2017 in Salt Lake City. He had children Dean Bailey Glanville and Jeffrey Lynn Glanville. Douglas Glanville was buried at Cremated.

In 1933, in the year that Douglas Mark Glanville was born, on March 4th, Franklin Delano Roosevelt became the 32nd President of the United States. He was elected four times (equaled by no other President) and guided the United States through the Great Depression, the Dust Bowl, and World War 2. His wife was his cousin Eleanor Roosevelt (Teddy Roosevelt's niece) who President Truman called "First Lady of the World".
